FAQs About Fostering for RRHR

How do you become a foster?

To become a foster, please fill out an application on our website or download a PDF file and e-mail to us. The application will include calling references, a vet and home check, and a signed contract after approval.

How old do you have to be to become a foster?

We request that you are at least 21 years old. If you are younger, it can be approved with Board of Directors approval.

What entails being a foster?

A foster will give a husky a loving and safe home while helping it recover from medical and emotional trauma. This includes but is not limited to feeding, adequate exercise, transporting to medical appointments, and working on training the dog for their forever home.

Will I have any responsibilities outside of taking care of the foster?

Yes. As events come up, we would like for the foster to attend as this helps with getting them known and adopted. You will also be required to update us at least monthly with pictures and on the foster such as improvements in behaviors.

Who is responsible for medical care?

We will be liable for all approved medical costs.

If my foster needs to see a vet that is not scheduled, how do I do that?

Call or text the foster coordinator and explain what is going on. If approved, the coordinator will schedule an appointment at an approved vet that works with your schedule.

Do I need prior authorization for all veterinary vists?

Typically, yes. However, if an emergency such as seizures, snake bites, or possibility of life/limb occurs, that will take precedence. We request that you notify the foster coordinator as soon as practical if this situation does arise.

Can you guarantee the temperament of a foster?

No. We will do our best to place a foster in the most appropriate home but we cannot guarantee their temperaments. If an issue does arise, contact the foster codinator and it will be discussed on how to move forward that is safe for both the fosters and dog.

How long can I expect to have a foster?

The timeframe for adoption can vary based upon factors such as medical treatments required before adoption. The average timeframe from rescue to adoption is approximately 6 months.

Will I be reimbursed for any expenses incurred while fostering?

Typically, no, as we are an all-volunteer rescue. Some expenses may be reimbursed with written approval from the Board of Directors and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Can I adopt my foster?

Yes! if you fall in love with your foster, you can let the foster coordinator know that you wish to adopt them and an adoption contract can be completed and processed.
